Google announced the Nexus One phone today, which is on sale from Google here. My current contract is up, I’m sick of living with Edge, and I don’t want to depend on good enough data coverage for Skype, so I bought one with the T-Mobile plan. As a former iPhone user and soon-to-be-former G1 user, I’m excited about getting a thin and light phone with replaceable battery and a true headphone jack. I’m a huge fan of the trackball in general, so I’m loving that the Nexus One’s trackball doubles as a notification system; however, I do fear I’ll miss the G1’s awesome flip-out keyboard more than “never.” I mostly use my smartphone to email/text/Twitter, so I’m looking forward to speaking email with voice input, multiple Gmail account and Undo support. More Nexus One goodness as I discover it… now, to wait for FedEx.

Will you have it in time for Barcamp? I want to gawk at one, even if I have no intention of giving up my iPhone for the foreseeable future.

Gina, awesome to hear — sounds like the timing worked out nicely on this! I will be VERY interested to hear your review. I am somewhat jealous, having taken the Droid plunge in November (I don’t think I’d miss the physical keyboard). Thankfully, many of the reviews say it is just a tad faster than the Droid and who knows how speedy the Droid will be when it officially runs 2.1 (I believe someone ran a custom 2.1 ROM on it and said it was very speedy). *sigh* Cross my fingers.
Congrats on the upgrade and I’ll be listening to hear your impressions.

Heck yeah I’ll have it at Barcamp! You can play with it then.

After watching the live coverage today at C-Net and Gdgt, I’m definitely sold on the handset. Unfortunately, I can’t find any T-Mobile 3G coverage for The Bluegrass State. I’m sure the phone would be okay on EDGE, but somehow “okay” just doesn’t cut it. Looks like I’ll bide my time for the Verizon version.

I’m still a smartphone virgin which is more about the cost of ownership in the UK than any lack of desire to get my geeky little mits on them.
I’ll let you early adopters fiddle with it and get a feel for it through your eyes. 🙂

I’m looking forward to your review later 🙂
Have fun with your new toy!
(did you receive my google wave emails?)

Crap, being in Europe means I can’t get one until later this year I guess. I need a second phone to my Blackberry. And I presume at the end of the year it will be a toss-up between the newest Android phone and whatever comes out of Cupertino…
