This week's episode of This Week in Google included my friend Matt Haughey. Because we recorded on iPad launch day, the conversation inevitably centered around the new device, which I didn't buy. A live viewer told me I looked a little bored at times--and I'll admit, since I didn't have one of the toys to play with myself, I kind of was. Still, it was a fun discussion full of iPad love, even though Jeff Jarvis had a little morning-after regret.

Matt Haughey says Google Buzz doesn't offer an easy way for publishers to see what people are saying about their stuff. He's right; as in Google Reader and Facebook, much of the liking and commenting and sharing that goes on in Buzz happens out of earshot of the creator. I think Buzz is a fine product--a pretty predictable FriendFeed clone, really--but it does suffer from this same broken loop problem that Google Reader creates. Also of interest to other publishers, Matt's related piece on what feedback loops he pays attention to in order to learn how to make better stuff online.

One of my internet heroes Matt Haughey spends four hours with a Motorola Droid as a totally new user and doesn't have very many good things to say about the experience. A few of Matt's complaints are just a matter of his not being used to the interface, which is to be expected on any new mobile platform. (I didn't know how to remove apps from the iPhone home screen until I'd had the phone for awhile, either.) However, many of his points are valid. Android's got a long way to go if it leaves a savvy user like Matt frustrated. I'll be interested to see what Matt has to say after four WEEKS of using the Droid.
