This Week in Google One of iTunes’ Best Podcasts of 2010
December 9th, 2010, 3 comments
Big thanks to iTunes Rewind for including This Week in Google (video) on their Best Podcasts of 2010 list. Two years ago, if you told me that I'd ever love doing a web show as much as I love TWiG, I would've never believed you. But Leo has built an unbelievable network of shows for and by smart people who love tech at TWiT, and it's a privilege to be a part of it. Congrats to Leo and Jeff, and thanks for 72 great episodes to far. To many more!
No Facebook in Ping After All

Yesterday on TWiG, Leo and Jeff and I discussed Facebook integration in Ping--Leo didn't know it was there, but looking at the screenshots on Apple's site, before I got the iTunes 10 download, I said it was there. But even though the Ping web page reads "Find even more music fans...by connecting to your Facebook account" right now, Kara Swisher reports that Steve Jobs told her there's no Facebook in Ping because they wanted "onerous terms that we could not agree to." So, I stand corrected. Ping is a completely walled garden.

I'd like to think it uses some sort of smarts to determine what songs you haven't synced that you should have. Either way, nifty feature for quickly filling up your player without having to check off playlists manually.

Mac user Grant Lucas is putting the Todo.txt CLI and GeekTool to great use on his Mac, pictured above. (Click to enlarge, or check out the annotated Flickr page.) GeekTool affixes the output from command line scripts (and more) to your Mac desktop, so when everything is minimized, it's still visible. Starting at the top left corner and going clockwise, you can see he's got the weather, his project status overview, today's tasks, a calendar, iTunes, and system information up, which automatically updates in the background. Just so happens this setup is very similar to my own. Lucas explains how he wound up with this good-looking display:
